HEB Intro Text

Charity status gained on the 25th July 2003

The bands objective is to promote, improve, develop and maintain public education in the appreciation of the art and science of music, and in particular brass band music by the presentation of public concerts and related events; and for the general purposes of such charitable bodies or for such other purposes as shall be exclusively charitable as the general committee may from time to time determine.

This means many things to the band, including Gift Aid, can be claimed on all donations made.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid provides an opportunity for donors to increase the value of their donations to charity. Provided they are taxpayers, the charity can reclaim from the Inland Revenue the basic rate tax paid on their gifts. this increases the donation by 28%. So a donation of £10 from you is worth £12.80 to the charity.

All we need from you is a simple declaration saying that you want to use Gift Aid. A declaration can cover one of more donation, and it can be made in writing or orally. it can also be backdated to cover all donations since the band became a charity in July 2003.

A declaration form can be found here (.doc file). If you want to give a donation to the band simply print it off and fill in the form, no signature is required. Alternatively if you speak to a band member they will be able to provide you with one.

Gift Aid is not compulsory but we are grateful for every penny received.

If you want to know more then all the information you need can be found at The Inland Revenue.
