Simon has been conducting Hade Edge Band since 1999 and has a lot to do with their recent success. He also conducts the Honking Hedgers (Junior Band), the Tree Honkers (Training Band) and the Jazz Honkers (Big Band). He is also responsible for various arrangements and compositions, showcased largely by the Hade Edge ensembles and other bands around the country.
Simon is from the same local area as Hade Edge, and grew up in another small village, Birds Edge. After his A-levels in music Simon studied music at Huddersfield University and followed his degree by studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
He was first introduced to brass bands by his dad who played cornet in Shepley Band. Since then Simon has never looked back and brass bands have played a big part in his life. From playing with bands such as Sellers and Versatile Brass, he went on to conduct bands such as Uppermill, British Aerospace, Versatile Brass and most recently Dobcross before coming to Hade Edge.
Simon's two children are also involved with the groups at Hade Edge: Aaron plays in the Senior Band, Honking Hedgers and Junior Jazz and Noah plays in the Honking Hedgers.
We are currently looking for back row cornet players and two percussionists.
To enquire about any vacancies or if you are interested in coming for a blow, please contact our MD, Simon Wood, by email at conductor@hadeedgeband.co.uk or call 07973426939
New players are always welcome at Hade Edge, so please do not hesitate in contacting us if you are interested in joining either our Senior band or any of our Junior ensembles.
Hade Edge Band, in line with the guidelines issued by the BFBB of Great Britain, have recently issued a Code of Conduct which covers all members, playing or non-playing, including the MD and General Committee members.
The Code of Conducts implicit aims are for good teaching practice and the promotion of a professional image and respect for all those in the brass band world.
The Code of Conduct covers the following:
Rehearsals
Contest and Concert Duties
Dress Code
Standards of behaviour and respect for all
Complaints and Grievance procedures.
Copies of the Code of Conduct are handed to new players and committee members as part of their induction to the band. Copies are available to anyone that wishes to receive one from the Chairman.
